This SOCR Wiki page describes the protocol for writing and submitting a SOCR proposal

Types of SOCR Proposals

  • Educational Proposals
    • These are projects that propose to design and disribute new SOCR educational materials (e.g., SOCR_EduMaterials)
  • Research Proposals
    • These are projects that utilize SOCR tools in variery of research endeavors (e.g., LONI Viz)
  • Software and Tool Development Proposals
    • These are projects that involve the development of new, or extending of existent SOCR tools for statistical computing
  • Investigator-Initiated Project Proposal
    • Open projects that are initiated by outside groups or investigators that develop or utilize SOCR resources

Proposal Topics

  • Proposals in Response to Specific SOCR Call for Proposals (see the Available SOCR Development Projects)
  • You can submit, at any time, an unsolicited SOCR proposal of either type, however, we encourage you to first carefully review the SOCR challenges, available tools, materials and resources. Your proposal should be inline with the SOCR goals and vision for developing, validating and disseminating knowledge, tools and materials.

How to Write a SOCR proposal?

  • There is no strict format for these proposals, however, we recommend, following a standard NSF/NIH proposal format:
    • Summary (1/2 page);
    • Statement of the problem and Relevance to CCB Shape research (1-2 pages);
    • Background (1-5 pages);
    • Proposed Methods & Designs (1-5 pages);
    • Preliminary Results (0-3 pages);
    • Timeline (1/2 - 1 page);
    • Software tool implementation details (open source, CVS, OOP, Web dissemination via SOCR, etc.)
  • Examples of well-written proposals (these are provided just to show proposal organization & style, not content)
