SOCR Datasets - Acute and Chronic Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Neuroimaging study

Data Overview

TBI Brain Mapping

Examine the precise nature of localized brain atrophy in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) using non-invasive imaging methods may provide predictive biomarkers to identify patients at risk to develop Posttraumatic Epilepsy (PTE). Automated shape and volume analysis technique can disclose the presence of focal alteration in patients’ thalami after acute Traumatic Brain Injury.

Data Description and Variable Specification

Missing data were imputed using R's MI package.

  • ID: Unique subject identifier
  • Demographic variables:
    • age: subject age at injury time
    • sex: Males (0) and Females (1)
  • GCS (Glasgow Coma Scale)

  • GOSE (Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale)

  • Injury Type

  • PERSYT SPIKE DETECTION (EEG)
    • spikes.hr
    • min.hr
    • max.hr
  • Seizures: indicators of presence or absence of seizures
    • acute.sz: at acute state
    • late.sz: at chronic state
    • ever.sz: lifetime to date
  • Acute: observations typically within hours or days of injury
  • Chronic: observations 6-16 months following injury
  • Neuroimaging Morphometry measures
    • Global Measures (either at acute or chronic state):
      • TBV: total intercranial volume
      • GM: total Gray Matter volume
      • WM: Total White matter volume
      • CSF: total cerebro-spinal fluid in the brain
    • Local Measures of 56-ROI's: volumes of these regions of interest (either at acute or chronic state)
